Mafia (Sunday) Gravy
Also called "Sunday Gravy", it's the signature for many Italian-American pasta-centered meals. A wealth of hearty ingredients and six hours simmering in our farmhouse kitchen. You just add meatballs and sausage.
There are some memories that never fade. For me, one of those memories is Sunday dinner.
The picture reminds me of my grandparents Francesco and Carmella, my uncle Salvatore, and my aunt Rosa gathered around the family table. Most Sundays, however, that table was filled with brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors. If you arrived near dinnertime, you were welcomed with a chair, a plate, and a glass of wine. Before long, you were simply family.
Those afternoons were never rushed. We shared stories about work, family, hopes, and dreams while enjoying the wonderful meals prepared by the women of the family and the fruits of the men's hard work throughout the week. Conversation, laughter, and good food were always served together.
The recipes in our Famiglia Cinquegranna Pantry Favorites come directly from those Sunday tables. They remind us that a great meal is about more than food. It is about gathering the people we love, sharing what we have, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
These recipes have nourished our family for many generations. Now we invite you to gather your own family around the table, pour a glass of wine, pass the bread, and make memories of your own.
From our family table to yours... buon appetito.

Originally a "quick" sauce for sailors (Marinai) it's uniquely versatile. But ours isn't quick-- it spends four hours simmering in our farm kitchen.
Sometimes you want a little "kick", our Arrabbiata sauce with its generous dollop of Calabrian chili paste and onions adds a lively dimension to pasta dishes.
Send the kids to a "sleep over"-- Puttanesca is for Mom and Dad, lovers. Its unique flavor and texture sets the mood for an enjoyable evening with dim lights and soft music.
Tender artichoke hearts, bell peppers, onions and vine-ripened tomatoes are simmered with garlic and Italian herbs to create a rich, rustic sauce inspired by warm, sunny Southern Italy. Perfect over pasta, chicken, or on warm, crusty bread as an appetizer.
